5 Essential Skills of a Qualified Teacher

The very first social institution humans come across are schools and teachers play an integral role in it. Throughout our lives we have been learning by our teachers and spread the knowledge to others, therefore, it is essential to know that what we are learning to preach correct knowledge and perpetuate a prosperous society. It is seen that teaching is a challenging job that requires the integrity of a person and a skill set for the emotional and educational development of a human being. While it is challenging, it is also one of the most rewarding jobs. But rewards are the result of hardcore effort, commitment, and dedication. The following are some essential skills that will complement the above-mentioned qualities.

Communication:

Teaching is said to be a form of communication as knowledge is spread through word of mouth. A teacher must have excellence in communication and clarity in a speech that includes both verbal and written communication. Also, a teacher must be able to alter communication style with the level of the audience to explain the material which is both accessible and meaningful to the students.

Critical thinking:

Teachers are bombarded with a variety of problems in their day to day tasks with several students with different backgrounds and mindsets. It becomes hard to meet deadlines when you already have enough to manage. A skillful teacher always knows what resources are needed to address the problems effectively. This demands for critical thinking skill of a teacher to get things done on time.

Patience:

Sometimes it becomes hard to control your temper when you already have a long day to go. Attending seminars, teaching children, meeting with colleagues, and reporting parents on the progress of their children becomes tiresome and headache when you lose control of your anger. Patience and anger management are two essential skills for all teachers to learn.

Positive attitude:

Teaching as a career demands a person to stay positive and optimistic even if you know that some war has broken down in your country or there is a shortage of food outside. To enlighten the naive minds and give them positive energy a teacher must possess a positive attitude itself. This attitude helps a teacher to deal with critical situations and inculcate confidence among students. 

Adaptability:

Above mentioned skills become useless when a person is unable to adapt according to the needs of students and society as a whole. The modern world has welcomed the digital age likewise its time to update and change the long old methods of teaching and learning. Teaching is challenging this way as you have to deal with whatever is thrown in your way.
